The *l< leged ]ibel consisted in the Argus referring to tho political agreement not to contest elections during war time, tilid declaring that Herr Holman and hit party had "scrapped" the piece of papei whereon a patriotic truce was written. Mr. Holman's father gave evidence wit his son's parentage on both sides vat English. Replying to the Chief Jp* tice's question: "Are you, or.have ton ever been, of German sympathy?" Jfolman, senr., said: "Not in the slgihteat." Defendants' counsel explained tftat the words were never intended to ijfer that IJr. Holman was of German origin, or descent, or sympathies, and the caM" were struck out.
