THE DARDANELLES
CONTINUATION OF REPORT. SKILL AND COURAGE, London, April 10. General Munro recognises that the quantities of stores destroyed and abandoned were considerable, but the great aim was to save the men, guns and ammunition. They could not take risks. Thus, if the evacuation were to be completed, it demanded good luck and skilled organisation. These were forthcoming in a marked degree in the hour of need." The arrangements of General Birdwood and the corps commanders could not have been surpassed for skill, competence and courage. General Monro mentions that as the result of the rain and blizzard on November 21 there were 200 deaths from exposure, and 10,000 sick were evacuated, chiefly from Suvla. General Monro will shortly furnish a distinguished conduct list. The dispatch covers the Serbian expedition to the withdrawal to Salonika. It shows that the 10th Division from Suvla was sent to support the French when the French efl'ort to link up with the Serbians failed. The withdrawal was ordered in accordance with previous arrangements with the Allied Governments.
