FIRES.
BOARDIXG-HOUSE GUTTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, April S. A two-storey boarding-house in Gladstone street, owned by .T. H. White and occupied by Mrs. M. Jmpey. was gutted by.fire last night. There were thirteen boarders asleep when the alarm was given. All rushed into the street in night attire. George Storey, aged 40, employed as a clerk in the Postal Department, returned for his trousers and was overpowered by the smoke. A rescuer found him enveloped in flames. He was badly burned and removed to the hospital. Storey's condition is serious, but is not expected to prove fatal. Insurances: House. South British, £450; furniture, Standard, £l5O.
