WELLINGTON'S SLACKNESS. 'From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, April 7. ' "Wellilrgjon lias done very well in the past, and the present slackness is due, m my opinion, to failure tn ndopt the Government's recruiting scheme." said the Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward yesterday. Sir Joseph i« one of the members of the Recruiting Board, and during his recent trip in the South Island he had an opportunity to see'the results in districts where the .scheme is being put into effective practice. "The Government's recruiting scheme has not been adopted in Wellington." added the Minister. "There is evidence already that where it has been given effect to by public bodies and other workers, the results have been very gratifying. Recruits have come forward in great mimbers than ever before.''
