WOOLLEN MILLS DEADLOCK.
PARTIES MEET THE PRIME MINISTER. A LENGTHY CONFERENCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, April (!. Representatives of the woollen workers and of the Wellington Woollen Company met the Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey) at the [parliamentary Buildings yesterday afternoon, in order to discuss the deadlock that caused the closing of the Petone mills. Mr. Massey had invited the parties to meet him in order that the dispute might be discussed in the light of the Arbitration Court's recommendation of a general war bonus of ten per cent, on workers' wages. The conference sat for nearly three hours, Minister being present ,al! the time. No statement was made for publication afterwards, but It Is understood that the basis of a possible settlement was discussed, andtliat the union delegates undertook to submit the terms to a meeting of the union held later in the evening at Petone, There is some ground for .hope that a settlement will be arranged as a re.su" of the conference. The point of difference between the parties is now very slight.
