PURCHASE THE WAVERLEY, 1 For some time past negotiations have been proceeding for the purchase of the Anchor Shipping Company's well-known ccastal steamer Waverley' by the Patea Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Company. Messrs W. and G. Turnfoull and Co., of Wellington, have now completed the sale of the vessel, which will pass into the hands of her new owners at an early date. Of 157 tons gross register, i.the Waverley was built at Auckland in 1883; and was engined J>y Messrs E. W, Mills and Co., of Wellington. Her dimensions are: 112 feet in length, 17 feet in breadth and 8 feet in depth. Whilst engaged in the Patea trade, she was somewhat shorter thah at present, hut on relinquishing that running "she was lengthened considerably in order to fit her for the trade which she has since maintained. Her first ■ owner was the late Captain W. J. Gibbons; who was J.masfor of her for many'yeans. She was 'then sold to the Anchor Company,.of Nelson; which ha 3 been her owner ever since. Her present master'is Captain Ruthe, but Captain Fisk, well knjwii. as master of the Aorcre, will assume command of the vessel when she passes into the hands of her new owners. The Waverley is at present at Nelson receiving a most extensive overhaul under the superintendence of Captain Fisk. The Patea Farmers' Freezing Company intends to insulate the vessel for. the carriage of frozen meat to Wellington. The Waverley will run in conjunction with the Aorere in the Wellington-Patea service.
