A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
BOROUGH WORKMAN INJURED. STRUCK BY A CRUSHER BELT. ■Whilst employed on the Borough Council's crusher at Fitzroy yesterday morning an elderly man named Hugh Gunn met with an accident which caused serious injuries, to his chest, while a fellow-employee, S. L. Simons, -sustained injuries to his arm while endeavoring to assist Gunn. Gunn was removed to the hospital by the ambulance, and an examination Showed that his chest ivas badly crushed, and several ribs were broken, while .lie was also severely bruised. His condition is regarded as serious. Xo one saw the accident occur, but it is gathered that Gunn was the. first workman to arrive at the crusher and he set the motor going. By some means a wheel which should have been inactive Was set in motion, and it gathered up a belt, leaving the end loose and swinging at a rapid rate. While Gunn was moving around the crusher the belt struck him a heavy blow across the chest, and caused the injuries, while it also struck Simons on the arm. _ The motor was then shut off, and the injured men received medical attention.
