Mr. H. A, Young, Stipendiary Magl*» trate at Gore, has enlisted foi aOtlva service. Mr. J. Rickton, a very old settler in the Inglewood district, died at Taumarunui on Tuesday. Among the recruits who went to camp this week was Mr. Hugo Freetll, recently of the literary staff of the Mauawatu Daily Times. Dr. W. H. Lang, handicapper foi the Victorian Amateur Turf Club, has. been appointed V.R.C. handicapper at ft salary of cable. 1 I There was a large attendance of woHwishers at the Stratford Methodist schoolroom on Tuesday evening to bid farewell to the Rev. A. Reader, who has been transferred to Thorndon, and the Kev. A. O. Harris, who proceeds to Eltluun. Mr. J, Masters presided, and presented Mi:. Reader and Mr. Hwrto with a purse of sovereigns each
