PATRIOTIC FUNDS.

MEETING OF ADVISORY BOARD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Patriotic Societies' Advisory Board resolved, on the motion of Mr. J. •T. Dougall (Canterbury), that on the recommendation of each province, the provincial district should consider the advisability of distinctly defining the scope of operations of each patriotic society, with the district and area within which each should operate. The Board decided to obtain the opinion of the Crown Law Office on the powers of the societies in advancing sums without interest or valid security for the purpose of assisting returned soldiers on the land or in business, and resolved to ask the societies for particulars of the scales of assistance which they have adopted. It was unanimously resolved that the Board declares that its functions are purely advisory and desires to notify patriotic societies accordingly.
