ARBITRATION COURT.

[ SITTING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. There was a short sitting of the Arbi. tration Court at the New Plymouth Courthouse yesterday, Mr. 'Justice Stringer presiding, anil there were also on the bench Mr. William Scott (employers' representative), and Mr. J. A. McCullough (workers' representative). The drivers' dispute was first heard. Mr. Geo. Davis (secretary of the Auckland Drivers' Union), appeared for the workers, and Mr. W. Pryor for the employers. Mr. Davis intimated that the' union withdrew its application for an award.

In the takers' award (Mr. P. Berge for tlic employees and Mr. W. Pryor for the employers), a complete recommendation of ' the Conciliation Council wn s reported, but as representing the employers,-Mr. Pryor applied for the insertion of a clause providing for differential rates for country bakers and objected to the preference clause that had been agreed upon. The court reserved its decision. Mr. M. J. Reardon appeared for the workers and Mr. Pryor for the employers in the general laborers' dispute. The wages and preference clause were objected to by Mr. Pryor. It was agreed that the council's preferential clause should be inserted, and decision on the wages point was reserved. The court then adjourned.
