AFFRAY AT WHANGAREI.
THREE MEN IN HOSPITAL; Whangarei, Ma'oh 27. Three men were admitted to Whatigarei Hospital to-day as the result of a brawl in tlie early hours of the morning at Whangarei lieacli It appears that John Tankred, G, Gebbin and Paddy Dwan, three mates employed as slaughtermen at the freezing works, were drinking in a room of a boardingh'ouse' near the Works. Altercations led to a fight between Dwan and one of the Gthers. and it is alleged that Dwan used a knife, and inflicted a wound 011 the arm of his opponent. The third man went to his mate's rescue with a stick. J-Ie received a cut across one arm irom Dwan's knife, while he was hitting Dwan across the head his with stick, pwan subsequently disappeared. Tailored and Gebbin were sent in a launch to Whangarei for admission to the hospital, each haying flesh wounds on the arm, but not serious. The police ivere informed, and Constable Paine returned by launch and secured Dwan, who also was admitted to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries about his head, lie states that he knows nothing about the affair. Couft proceedings will follow in due course.
