OPERATIONS AT CRETE. ALLIED FORCES LANDED. GREECE LODGES A PROTEST. Received March 30, 12.35 a.m. Athens, March 29. The' Allied warships landed men aild blockaded Suda Bay, in the Gulf of Caijea, and demanded the surrender of the German Consul, which was refused, and they seized the captain of an Austrian vessel. Landings were effected at Chalcis, in Euboea, in search of Buspected petrol bases. Greece has protested. The British landed sailors At Patras and arrested two Germans. Fort Petalioi which is outside the Piraeus waters, fired blank shot at two British merchantmen which were carrying riaval men and were searching the coast line. [Canea is the capital of Crete, and lies on the north coast, about 25 miles from the we3t end and 5 miles west of the head of Suda Bay. Euboea is the largest island, belonging to Greece, in the Aegean Sea (area, 1460 square miles), and Chaleis is the chief town and port of the northern division.]
