WAITARA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Yesterday. The 5.3. Kumara left Picton at 2 a.m. this morning and is expected in the Roadstead in time to work this afternoon's tide. She is to lift a quantity of frozen beef and mutton. The next steamer to 'oad hero > \'i be the s s. Opawa and she is xspcted sometime in April, to lift ft 10 bales of wool and a quantity of other general cargo. The annual Methodist Sunday School picnic is being held on Friday next at Huirangi, and, given favorable weather, an enjoyable day in tho country should result. The children and otiiers are being conveyed by motor lorry leaving at 9.30 a.m. A concert and dance held at Tikornngi last Friday evening came oil' very successfully, and it is expected the patriotic funds will benefit by about £l3 from tlio effort. A social under the auspices of the Patriotic Committee is being hold in the Tikornngi Hall on Thursday evening as a farewell to those leaving for the front. The proceeds are being devoted to purchasing gifts for soldiers. Captain J. Williamson, who up to the present lias made Waitara his headquarters, lias removed to Onehunga, having disposed of the ketch Dawn, and taken over tlie Albatross. The latter vessel, it will be remembered, was on the the Waitara-Onehunga service for a short time in 1910. Captain Williamson is wished every success in his new enterprise.
