Aeroplanes are busier than ever on the front. Vv ithin a few hours I witnessed two flights. German Archibalds opened up 011 a British plane almost Immediately over my head, making a thrilling spectacle with numerous brilliant flashes of bursting shrapnel. The British plane sailed serenely through it all. Later the British artillery opened up oil an advanced German plane, scoring, with almost incredible rapidity a great square field of fire in the heavens with smoke rings as exactly marked below the Taubes' position as the black squares on a checker board. The Germans, apparently, were quite unhurt The entire experience here shows 'that artillery fire is of comparatively little u«e against planes, however spiendidly directed. Tliey are now operating at a height which make hits exceedingly dilficult. The only effective weapon against air craft is faster aircraft.
