LAND SALE.
MESSRS SYMES BROS.' PROPERTIES. One of the most important land sales on this coast took place at Waverley on Friday, when the several valuable properties owned by Messrs E. A. and A. Symes were offered by public auction by the Farmers' Co-operative Organisation Society, Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co., Ltd. The first section offered comprised 380 acres of native lease in the Otautau Native Reserve (near Patea), and held under the West Coast Settlement Act. Some good crops of turnips, etc., were growing on this property. Mr. E. McCarthy was the purchaser at £l2 10s per acre goodwill. Two hundred and forty acres, also In the Otautau Reserve, and held under the same conditions as the above, was passed in at £9 10s, the reserve being £ll. Lot No. 3 comprised the goodwill of the lease of 95 acres in the Whenuakura homestead block. It was a native lease, held under the West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, and made £l3 10s per acre, Mr. G. Kihfusg being the purchaser. Lot No. I—lo9 acres 2 roods, adjoining the homestead, freehold. Sold to Mr. G. O'Reilly for . £54 per aero. Lot No. s—The next two sections, comprising 109 and 105 acres, also part of the homestead block, Wore passed in at- £35 and £37 10s per acre.
Lot No. 6—S4. acres, adjoining the above, and also part of the homestead block, Mr. W. Back (Whenuakura), £44 5b per acre. Lot No. 7 —124 acres, between the railway line and the beach, and known as "Palmer's." This was generally considered to be the pick of tlie lot, and was knocked down to the Patea Farmers' Freezing Co. for £55 per acre. Lot No. B—lo9 acres, adjoining, was sold to Mr. Hovend for £55 2s Cd per acre. Lot 9.—KB acres, together with the lease of the Harbor Board reserve, was passed in. MOUMAHAKI PROPERTY. Lot No. 10—407 acres, where the homestead is situated. Sold to Mr. D. Bourke for £25 10s per acre. Lot No. 11 412 acres, adjoining the above. Mr,- Ray'nej* Jackson, £23 per acre ' Lot No. 12—354 acres in the same block. Mr. Gregor McGregor (Waitotara), £22 per acre. - -Lot No. 13—359 acres, known as 'Toy's." R. Lillburn (Hunterville), £2l 10s per acre. Lot No. 14—Lease Okaliu Native Reserve. 02 acres; lease 10 years to run. W. D. Johnson .(Waverley), -£9 per acre, goodwill. Lot No. 15—405 acres, freehold (adjoining the homestead')'. t'iget;hev with 707 acres grazing run. Tlie purchaser of the goodwill of the. '•tO.I acres to have the option, without competition, of taking over the goodwill of the "razing run for £7OO. O. J. Hawken (Mokoia), £lO per acre.
Lot No. 18 —100 acres, freehold, close to Waitotara river,, together with woolshed, dwelling, yards, shearing, machines and engine, etc., also the lease of 39 acres, known as the Ferry Reserve, thrown in. Mr. C. J. Hawken (Mokoia). £3l per acre. Lot No. 17 —4SU acres, freehold, on the south side of the VVaitotara river. With this property there was the goodwill of the lease of 4805 acres of '*run" country, which the purchaser had the option of takins for £SOO without competition. Mr. C. J. Hawken (Mokoia), £lO per acre. BUSH COUNTRY. The bush country, situated at the back of Ngutuwera. was divided into three sections. Tlie offers for this did not reach the reserve.
Tha total value of the land disposed of under the hammer approximated £78,000. It -is anticipated that the balance will be. Bold privately within the next few days, and that the total sale will be in the vicinity of £120,000.
At the conclusion of "this sale Miss Dempster's property, of 500 acres at Nukumaru was offered, but the bids failed to reach the reserve.
