The Morning Post's Petrograd correspondent writes that the Germans are busily fortifying Vilna, which they recognise as the object of the Russians' blow. Anglo-French prisoners are thus employed. The fighting is fiercest between Riga and Smorgan, -where the Germans are preparing to force a wedge across the Dwina. I SOME DESPERATE FIGHTING, Received March 27, 10.5 p.m. •'• Petrograd, March 27. A communique says: The Germans resumed the offensive near the Mitau railway, and they were repulsed. Desperate fighting continues between the Narotch and Visesenevskoe lakes. We repulsed an enemy attack at the junction of the Strypa and the Dneister. We are vigorously progressing in ousting the Turks from the heights of upper Chorouch, and we also considerably advanced southeast of Bitlis. |
