Butter.—Dull; high prices are checking the demand. There is little Australian on the spot; choicest salted (nominally) 154s to 1565, unsalted 156s to 160s, secondary 148s to 150s. New Zealand, choicest salted 158s to 1625, unsalted 102s to 104s. Cheese.—Unchanged, but with rather an easier tone as delivery is improving, the Government lending soldiers to fetch it from the docks. Wheat--Nominal; Pacific Australian Cargoes are not offering as sellers, .are unable to gauge the position of trade. Flour.—Easier. Oats.—Dullj Bahia-Blanca, on passage, 29s 3d. Beans.—Slow; New Zealand spring, 50s to 525. Peas.—Dull; New Zealand maples, 55s to 60s. Copper.—Spot £ll3, forward '£llo (nominal). Tin.—Spot £lO7, three months £l9l 10s. Pig-iron. BSs 3d. AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET.* The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report:— On Thursday, March 16, at Westfield,, dairy cows and heifers were penned in average numbers. Best sold at fro» £9 10s to £l3, others £4 15s to £7 10s, weaner heifers £1 10s to £2 ss, weaner steer calves £1 18s to £2 17s, bulls £4 to £lO 10s, empty cows £4 10s to £6 15s.
At Albert yards on Friday, horses were yarded in average numbers, but proved slow of sale. Heavy draughts £24 to £37, medium £lB to. £2B, ponies £4 10s to £8 108, hacks £lO to £lB, light harness horses £ll to £l7. At Westfield fat stock market «n Wednesday beef was pened in average numbers. Prices were firmer than the previous week. Best oxen sold to £2 3s per 1001b, others £1 17s Cd to £2 2s, heifers and cows £1 13s Od to £2. Steers sold at from £9 10s \o £l7 2« (Id, eow 8 £R 10s to £l2 15s. Best wethers sold to 28s Od, others 23s 6d to 28s, inferior fatted and small 17s to 22s 9d, ewes 24s to 325. Calves sold at last week's prices. The first of the Benmore displenishing sales was held on Tuesday in wet weather (says a message from Oamaru). There was a largo attendance, buyers being present from Christchurch to Invercargill. Forty-nine thousand sheep and about 500 cattle were submitted. The prices realised were: Half-bred wethers 10s 9d to ISs 7d, full-mouthed merino wethers to 5s 9d. Cattle: Freezing cow„ £7 15s, steers and bullocks £8 to £9 5s Bd, heifers £6 10s to £9, horses £2 to £ll.
