[ THE SHACKLETON EXPEDITION. NOTES PROM THE COMMANDER'S DIARY. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright Buenos Aires, March 23. The Endurance is expected daily. A whaler brought Sir E. Shackleton'e diary of the voyage to the island of South Georgia. Whalers there said ih*t it was a bad ice season, and that the pack was unbroken. Shackleton abandoned the Idea of crossing the continent that year and decided to winter on the Weddel Sea. He had hopes of reaching 77 degree* 80 minutes South before being froien in. The diary says that a stowaway wm discovered in a tank locker. He said it was his only chance of joining Ihe expedition, and he was made cook V help. Shackleton's Pole party would prob« ably consist of himself, Wild, Marston, Hurley, and Macklin. The men were in splendid health. He expected, to ■«ake cinema films of the Polar journey. It was difficult to realise that South Georgia had a population of 2000, The summer homes of the station manager* were replete with every comfort and there was electric light everywhere. The island was most valuable to the expedition, because the dogs could be exercised and fed on fresh meat. ■- Sir E. Shackleton said that Hurley had a good camera, and with many feet of film, which would enable moving pictures to be taken for the Jjm/ on a Polar journey.
