RUSSIA'S TASK.

ATTACKS RESISTED. < ; ACCORDING TO GERMAN REPORTS. Received March 24, 5.5 p.nu London, March 23. A Gorman wireless states that the Russians repeatedly advanced with strong forces at Jaeobstadt, and delivered four attacks on Vidsky, south of Dvinsk. They also repeatedly attacked with renewed violence between the Narotch and Vishnieff lakes, but the enemy did not secure the slightest advantage. ON THE RIGA FRONT. RUSSIANS' STEADY OFFENSIVE. A BATTLE FOR THE RAILWAYS. Received March 24, 8.50 p.m. London, March 23. The Daily Chronicle correspondent at Petrograd gays that a fierce abttle is ■raging along the lakes south of Dvinsk 'to Molodechno. They arc battles for the railways, and were commenced by General Hindenburg putting out a feeler at Lake Ranger, near Riga, and then southward of Dvinsk. The result has been to stir up the Russian offensive. Generals Kuropatkin and Vert are attacking in the Vidsky region, where they seized the German trenches at Lake Sekia and north-west of Vileika, where the Russians are seeking to force a passage between Lakes Norotcs and Neshniev. The Germans are meanwhile struggling to reach the railway from Molodechno to PolotsA", thus getting to the rear of the Dvinsk position. The Germans are mainly on the defensive, and are stubbornly holding their positions between the hikes, positions which they elaborately constructed during the winter. FURTHER SUCCESSES GAINED. Received March 25, 1.20 a.m. Petrograd, March 24. A communique reports: We pierced the enemy's organisations in the Jaeobstadt sector, and again advanced southwest of Lake Norotcs. We repulsed an attack at Kosloff, in the upper Strypa region, inflicting enormous losses.
