Mr. G. H. Clapham, tailor, a very* old resident of Wanganui, dropped dead In the street last night.—Press Association. The Hon. G. Hedstrom, a member ,of the Fiji Legislature, who lias been on a holiday visit to Sydney, is at present in New Zealand. He is accompanied by Mrs. Hedstrom. Mr. William Thompson, news editor of tho Montreal Star, is visiting Auckland. Mr. Thompson left Montreal in November, on a holiday tour nf the world, ond has visited England and An«tralia. Another old identity of Nortli Otajo passed away on Sunday, in the person of Mr. .Tohn Borton. The late Mr, Borton, who was in his ninetieth year, arrived in New Zealand in the sliip Cornxaall, landing at Port Chalmers in September, 1849. He was probably best known ns a partner in the firm of Borton and McMaster, who owned large sheep runs in the Maerewhenua district. As a breeder of merino sbeep, the late Mr. Borton was widely known, and his successes in the early day shows were phenomenal. When the partnership wag dissolved, Mr. Borton retained thi Maerewhenua portion of the runs until it was purchased by sub-division '<■ 'ha Government in 1895.
