TECHNICAL COLLEGE.
ATTENDANCE AT THE CLASSES. ' THE DOMESTIC COURSE. At the meeting f the Taranaki Education Board yesterday, the ..director of the Technical College (Mr. A. Gray) reported that the day classes re-opened on * February 7," and the evening classes on March 6. In the day classes there are at present 179 students, made up as follows:—Domestic class 21, commercial class Oft, engineering class 3ft, agriculture class S, arts and science class 12, total, 170. The report added: "The domestic class is not as large as I should like to see it. It seems impossible to eradicate the idea that domestic work requires less intelligence than other classes of work. As a matter of fact there is a very great necessity for intelligence among the home managers, and the keenest brains in the country will have to be brought to bear on this question. Miss Taylor and Air. Davis, the newly appointed instructors in cookery and commercial work respectively have taken up their duties. In the evening classes the numbers are as follows: Motor-engineering ii, plumbing 7, fancy work. 8, book-keep-ing lfl, shorthand 3(j. dressmaking ill, steam engineering 5, electrical engineering 8, mechanical drawing 5. total, 104. A number of parents should note that they have not yet registered their children as pupils." AGRICULTURE AA'ORK. Me Sergei reported as follows on agri"ulture work:—"l am glad to say that we have commenced work at Mr. J. S Connett's, Bell Block. The area he has so kindly allotted, to us near Corbett Road station we have pegged off. started to fence part, and also plough. AYe have received much Kindness at his hands. During the month Mr. Samlfnrsl has had the boys up at his aniary, and Jiey have had practical work in con> lection with the bees, The boys also : ittended the Agricultural Show, and assisted in various ways. We expect to 'v> working on the Fitzroy, section i' | Alar. i "During last month 1 have visited a. | Hell Block, Oiknra. Okato. Hurford Road, Warea, Pungarehu, and also met individual suppliers at time of supplying milk a lite, factories. I have also finished seeing the boys who ha.ve plots in the turnip competition. I propose , starting evening lectures next month."
