CALL FOR MEN.

SPECIAL EFFORTS REQUIRED, Major McNaught spent yesterday in New Plymouth in order to place recruiting efforts oh an effective basis. Ha had long interviews with his Worship the Mayor (chairman of the New Plymouth Recruiting Committee) and Mr. Ellis (County Clerk), and thoroughly explained the new recruiting system, clearing up many points on which donbta existed. He also suggested that, if it could he managed, the Committee might rent an olliee in a central position in Devon Street and place a returned soldier in charge, so as to attract recruits. With reference to purging the rolls the various committees in the district will be supplied weekly with revifced lists, or the material for bringing the roll up to date. Another important matter that was arranged by Major MeXaught was to keep open the Defence Office at the Coronation Drill Hall from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m., and wherever possible this arrangement will be earned out throughout the district. To make up outside shortages in respect of the 1-ltli Reinforcements twenty men are required by Monday next, while for the Isths only 70 are available out of 135 required, leaving 65 to be provided by April 1.
