(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, March 'i!. A small but enthusiastic crowfl gathered at the station Inst evening to welcome Sergt.-Major fi. Bertraml, who came from Wellington by the mail train. The Mayor was present, and, in a few well-chosen words, welcomed home the returned soldier. The Natives from Wangamii who mia present at the recent Maori-gathering lield in honor of their late chief, Wftata Ilipaanga, returned hmne bv me mail train yesterday morning. The patriotic sports meeting to be held at Uremii on -Thursday, 23rd inst.,' promises to be a very successful affair, the attractive programme .alone meriting a large attendance. The. AVaitara Municipal Band will be in .att.eiidance, and vill help in a large nusasiirp to enliven proceedings. The inclemency of the weather prevented the s.s. Arapawa leaving Onehunga yesterday, hut she wae able to leave at noon to-day and is e-xuected in tomorrow.
