PETONE WOOLLEN MILLS.
[ SUPPLY OP MILITARY GOODS. - |, • • (From Our Own Correspondent.) fe i I ' Wellington, March 21. ' I The stoppage at the Petone Woollen Mills does not immediately affect the Munitions Department. The Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Munitions!,, stated to-day, in answer to a question on the point, that the Wellington Woollen Company had undertaken to supply a large quantity, of cloth and woollen garments monthly. The conditions were the same as in the ease of other woollen mills throughout the country, and his duty, as the Minister fe^ponsiblo-for the supplies of military requirements to the troops, was simply to pee that the contracts were observed. The directors of the company had informed him that they were in a position to carry out- their Undertakings for the month ' of March. He was not required, therefore, to take any action. Turning to the future, Mr. Myers said that it might become his duty' to take action later in order to ensure that the supplies required by the troops were made available. He understood that a meeting of the woollen mill owners would he held in 'Wellington on the following day to discuss the difficulties that had arisen, and he trusted that as a result of the conference satisfactory arrangements would be made to enable the mills to deliver military goods up to the end of the year in accordance with their contracts with his Department.
