Among those on board a transport which arrived at Port Chalmers recently was a passenger from Colombo, to whom some interest attaches, by reason of the fact that lie has come to New Zealand in order to enlist in this country. He is a young man of fine physique, and bis people live in England; but he has been ;so impressed with the prowess of the New Zealand soldiers that ho has decided to join this section of his Majesty's Forces. Actuated by this desire (says tlie Otago Daily Times), lie threw up a position in the service of the Railway Department at Colombo, and paid his own passage to Xew Zealand, in the hope that he will speedily be accepted for service.
