(From Cur Own Correspondent.)
Stratford, March !?.
The Stratford A. and P. Association have j'ii::t completed the asphalting of tic produce tnd luncheon room lloors. This should be a decided convenience to pan-mis ni future shows. The iocal cattle drovers are load in their complaints of the neglected ?'.ate or the cattle ford across the Patea River at Portia. Street. At present there is a sheer mop of six feet into the water, and when the river is at all high it is impossible to get the cattle across the ford. Complaints are also made about the large quantity of boulders in Portia Street which practically prevents cattle entering the cattleyards. Why the boulders were placed each side of the street is a question that only the borough officials can answer. The drovers have a genuine grievance, and it is certainly "up to" the Borough Council to immediately rectify the same before an accident occurs.
Tlie borough engineer and staff are busy inspecting the sanitary condition of the town. The streets are being sprayed witli disinfectant, while public places, theatres, etc., are also receiving the attention of the local Council.
The local Wounded Soldiers' Fund now stands at £4570 lis la. The sum of :C4l 3s (Id was netted from the Fete of Nations entertainment.
The annual Catholic social took place in the Town Hall last evening, and was well attended. Part of the proceeds arc to be devoted to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
