► TARA.NAKTS .NEXT QUOTA. I I MORE INFANTRY REQUIRED. J SEVENTY-THREE MEN WANTED, j Major J. Me.Vaught, commander of the luranaki military district, received advice ' last night that the Taranaki quota for the Jsth Reinforcement* has been altered t: t'u-, direction of eov.siderably inereaa.ng the call for men for the infantry. The number that is required for the Mounted Rilles lias been reduced to 7, while the infantry has been increased to 13"), the total quota being 151. Taranaki failed to supply its toll infantry quota this month, and yet the new infantry quota is 38 larger than that of this month. ' Major McNaught said that there were at present (12 men fit and available for the infantry, and 73 more were required by the end of the month, as ;no reinforcements will leave for camp on April 3. All other arms are complete. "A special effort will be required to get these men," added Major MeNaught, "and I appeal to all recruiting committees to assist. The .Hawira Committee will endeavor to secure 20 men, and if otlier towns make similar efforts their assistance will go a. long v.ay towards enabling Taranaki to fulfil its obligntions. Little more than a fortnight remains to secure the 73 men, so we liave a big task before us."
THE OUTLOOK YESTERDAY. ! The position of recruiting in New Z?a'land may be summarised thus (says yesterday's Dominion): — In Auckland: Very good. In Wellington: Very ordinary. In Canterbury: Very bad. • In Otago: Bad. Tile shortage is in the infantry arm, and more men arc wanted at once.
