A NEW PLYMOUTH APPEAL. WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE'S SCHEME. At the conterence of the Countesa tt of Liverpool and kindred funds held r« cently, It was decided to send a gift paTeel every month to the men In the trenches. Tho New Plymouth Women'# Patriotic Committee has decided to send 100 of these, each month as its share, and appeal especially to the women and girls of New Plymouth and its surrounding districts, on behalf of the soldiers at the front.

There is scarcely a home in New Zea. land that does not mourn the absence of father, husband, son, brother, or sweetheart, and it is the duty of those left behind to try and alleviate the hard lot of. those brave men. This can be done in a great measure by sending them gifts of wtra clothing, food, toilet necessaries, and little luxuries. All mothers and sisters interested in this work are invited to help with money or kind to provide the contents of these parcels. . The Bishop of London in a recent speech said: "No one can exaggerate the lot of the men in the trenches, which ia borne with absolute courage, glorious fortitude and wonderful cheerfulness, and the people at home, out of reach of bullets and shells, ought to strive their \ utmost to send the men every comfort." The goods most in request are: Condensed milk, lib tins jam, meat extract, eurry powder, bovril, boiled sweets (in tins), vasiline, coffee and milk, aoeks, mittens, butter, muslin shirts, colored handkerchiefs, camphor in muslin bags, etc., etc. All gifts will be gladly received at the depot in St. Aubyn Street as soon as possible as the parcels have to he packed and reach Wellington not later than the first day of each month. . . 4
