HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, March 13. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, March 11. Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot:— Meat. —There lias been no material change in the market during this week. Home-killed, a moderate supply. Supplies of frozen do not meet requirements, but there is no change in prices. Every endeavor is being made in order to prevent abnormally high prices. Mutton. —Canterbury and other brands than Canterbury, 7%<1 per lb (extremely scarce). Quotations arc normal. Ewes, "!%&. Lamb. Canterbury B'/id per lb; other brands than Canterbury, this season's, B%d per lb. Beef.—There is no New Zealand beef on the market. Chilled hinds, 8d per lb; fores C'/ 2 d. Butter.—The market is very firm. There is a good demand for colonial, and prices are firm. Danish, slow, per cwt., 190s to 184s; New Zealand, 102s to l(i4s, fair to good quality 150s to 1535, unsalted 164s to 1665; Australian, 156s to 158s, unsalted 160s to l<l2s; Siberian, a good demand for best quality, 126s to 1345; Argentine, a fair demand, 148s to 150s, unsalted 154s to 158s; Trish creamery, a small supply, 156s to 160s. Cheese.—The market is firmer. Canadian, no arrivals this week. There la an active demand, per cwt., 103s to 104s; New Zealand, available stock is small, notwithstanding recent arrivals. The market has advanced during this week. Holders are firm, 08s to 100s; English Cheddar, firm market, UOs to l!2s; Cheshire, very sen roe, Ills up to 120s; United States, firm market, a good demand, 98a to 102$, flats 96s to 100s. Hemp.—The market is quiet tut steady. Good-fair, per ton, ,€47; fair, £45 10s; Manila, new graded, fair £57. March to May shipment—Hoodfair, £4G 10s; fair, £44 10s; Manila, new graded, fair, £56. The output from Manila for the week ended 11th instant was 95,000 bales. Wool.—The market ie rather unsettled. Prices are irregular, but prospects are favorable. Wheat.—The market has been irregular, but closed firm. On passage, Canadian, per quarter, 60s; Argentine, 655. Oats—The market is very quiet; nothing doing. Argentine, on spot, per quarter, 29s fld; on passage, 30s 6d. N.P. WOOVHIDE, SKIN AND TALLOW SALES. L. A, Nolan and Co. report as follows:—On Tuesday, 7th inst.,' we held our four weekly sale of the above produce. An average catalogue, including seventy odd bales of Wool was submitted to our usual attendance of buyers. Wool declined about 11 r cent in sympathy with duller tone mi London market at the time. Woolly sheepskins were poorly represented, lambs skins sold at slifrhtly higher rates than last month. Hides on account of embargo were lower than last month, particularly in ox>. Tanners apparently will not exceed the price fixed by the Government, viz., lOd per lb. for the best heavyweights, lighter sorta Old to o;]d. Best cows sold at from B%d to B.?d. Tallow was easier on account of difficulty in securing shipping space.
