RECRUITING.

' STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL'S i ACTION. WILL NOW ASSIST. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the last meeting, the Stratford County Council practically turned down the recruiting .scheme, as suggested by the Recruiting Board. At yesterday's jneetinsr. further telegrams were read from the Frirne Hinister on the matter. The .chairman thought -the Council should' reconsider its former resolution. He suggested they should join forces with the Borough Council and appoint a paid eanvasser, such us had been done in the V itea district. Cr. Anderson said he was prepared to do his hit in helping the scheme in every way. In fact, he would give the., use of iiis motor car for the purpose. Cr. Smith said from inquiries he had made' there were very few men' left in his riding. If any more went the factories and farms would suffer. ■ The chairman: "Better let the farms suffer than we should lose the day." (Hear, hear!) The chairman added that some farmers were making the sacrifices while others were doing nothing. It was not right. Cr. Walters said they coukl help the Government in each riding, and all should assist in every way. He knew wealthy families who had sent no one, while, "other people had sent more |han their share. Mr Skoglund, secretary of the local Recruiting Board, at the request of the Council, attended, and gave the Council an account of what the Board had done so far. He suggested that meetings should be called in each riding and an effort made to form small committees 1 who would assist the board. I Cr. Walters moved: '-That the CounIril form Itself into a Recruiting Board." tThis w f as seconded by the chairman and carried. It was decided to call a meeting of ■ the Council on Tuesday next, at 1 p.m., 9 to confer with the local recruiting comI jnittee to assist in the movement.
