SANITARY PRECAUTIONS.

EMPIRE THEATRE AND THEATRE ROYAL FUMIGATING. During the past few weeks, the manager of the Empire Theatre and the Theatre Royal lias been taking special precautions in disinfecting and fumigating the theatres in view of the spread of tile dread infantile paralysis in the district. The theatres have been thoroughly cleansed and disinfected twice daily, in addition to which the seats, walls, woodwork, etc., hava received a fumigating with formaline, the process being to spray the formaline with a special pump secured for the purpose. Last night the manager decided to add to the precautions by a special fumigating process. At the conclusion of the picture entertainment, a Daily News reporter was initiated inte the mysteries of formaline fumigation. A number of spirit lamps were lighted in different parts of the theatre; over the flame was suspended a small tray. On each tray were placed a number of small white tablets, closely resembling a'peppermint lollie. Our reporter, however, was sßoii disillusioned on the peppermint score, and with streaming eyes beat a hasty retreat fer the fresh air. The doara of the theatre were then closed and will ;ist be opened again until this morning, when the troubles of any microbe that happened to rest at "The Empire" last night will be over for good. The Theatre Royal will receive a similar fumigation after the pictures this evening. The management intend continuing this process once every -week, in addition t» the usual disinfecting and formaline spraying.
