PITONE ROAD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The Pitone Road school picnic and sports were held on Mr. Fisher's farm on Thursday, March 9, the day being beautiful and fine. There was a good attendance, visitors coming from Tataraimaka, Okato, and Oakuva, and I think they all enjoyed themselves immensely. The native bush in the vicinity makes it an excellent spot for a pieinc, the only drawback being the state of the road, which is much neglected and unfit for vehicular traffic. The committee spent the previous day getting the blocks and completing other arrangements, and were thus able to keep events moving. There were chopping 'and sawing handicaps and various other competitions. The events were well contested and everything went off splendidly. At noon luncheon was set on the tables and ample justice was done to the good things provided by the ladies, which showed that their efforts were much appreciated. Following are the results of the sports:—
