BOWLING.

GILMOUR CUP COMPETITION. Tli e first matches thigs season in connection with the Gilmour Cup competition took place on Saturday, when both the New Plymouth teams (A and B) were defeated. New Plymouth A team played against Fitzroy, and the green being very fast favored accurate deliveries. In only one rink out of the three did New Plymouth get the advantage, Burgess badly defeating Smith, but not so decisively as H. Smart succumbed to Chi vers, while Bary was, for the greater portion of the game, quite out of the running against Higgs. Details are as follow, Fitzroy being mentioned first: Beadle, Hopkins, Oxenham, Chivers (s.) 30, v. Winfield, Cutfleld, Denipsey, H. Smart (s.) 18. Reid, T. G. Sole, Coxhead, S. Smith (s.) 19, v. Clianey, Cooke, Blundell, Burgess (s.) 29. Billing, Roseveare, Weller, Higgs (s.) 29, v. Birinie, Arnold, Brown. Bary (s.) 18. Total—Fitzroy 78, New Plymouth 63. The New Plymouth B match against West End proved an exciting and keen contest, being won on the post by the narrow margin of three points.
