THE REPORTED ATTACK OX ENVER. London, March 10. Mr. Jefferles says there are conflicting reports about the attempted murder of Enver Pasha. The Turkish Legation at Athens denies the rumor, but letters from Constantinople describe it as an accomplished fact. Further reliable details say that Enver was shot, and probably mortally wounded, by an officer who afterwards attempted suicide, which Envers guards prevented, almost tearing him to pieces. Constantinople, March 10. Enver Pasha is visiting Medina, the present terminus of the ConstantinopleMecca railway. T TALY. THE POPE'S ENTREATY. PRAY FOR PEACE. Received March 12, 3.5 p.m. London, March 11. The Pope, writing to Cardinal Basil Pompili, says: "We are throwing ourselves among the belligerents as a father between sons who are at strife, We have entreated them in the name of God, who is love infinite, to renounce their purpose of mutual destruction. Our paternal counsels have hitherto been unheeded, but wo must raise our voice against a war which seems to bo the suicide of civilised Europe. We trust Catholic families will join in fervent prayer and Christian mortification, and we especially appeal to the mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters of the combatants to lay at the Heavenly Throne an offering of voluntary *aeri(iccs which will turn aside the most just anger of God.
