THE ADVANCE ON THE TIGRIS. GENERAL AYLMER'S DIFFICULTIES. Reecivei March 12, 6.5 p.m. London, March 10. General Lake reports that General Aylmer, on the Bth, was operating seven or eight miles from the right bank of the Tigris. In consequence of lack of water he was obliged to fall back to the river. A TURKISH TALE. OF MUCH SUCCESS. Received March 12, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, Marcli 11. 'A Turkish communique says: The enemy attacked with their main forces on March 8, from the right bank of the Tigris. A river fleet brought up reinforcements, enabling the enemy to temporarily occupy portion of our trenches, which were wholly recaptured, disclosing two thousand of the enemy dead.
