Tlie deficiency is twenty men, eleven heing for tlie infantry, liy tin; first week of next month Tamnaki will have to provide about US men for the 15th lu-iuforee-ir.ents, so it will he seen that brisk recruiting is necessary. The mobilisation of the 14th .Reinforcements is still in progress, and it is not yet known how the draft is going to pan out, except that an infantry shortage is looked upon as a certainty (says yesterday's Dominion). Infantry are wanted from all parts, Wellington City is appealing for more infantry with which, to make good its shortage of liiili' a hundred. The (:hristc!i\;rch Press reports that slowly but surely the shortage in the Canterbury quota is being decreased, and it is now confidently anticipated that for tlie first time for several months the Canterbury district will be able to meet its obligations. The Christchureh Area Group has made a remarkable recovery during tlie last few days. Last Wednesday (a week ago) its'shortage in infantry was 34, on Saturday this had been reduced to 22. and eve.iitually the quota left at its full strength.
