DISTRICT NEWS.
BAHOTU. (FroiK Our Own Correspondent). Miss Artiuir, assistant teacher at the school, who hag left, was given a parting gift by the children on her last day at- school. Miss Muriel Williams made the presentation. The Methodist harvest festival concert and gift auction took place on Tuesday, February 29, but was not very well attended, owing to fo much being on lately. The bidding v.as fairly brisk and a good sum was realised. It is witli regret we learn that the Rev. T. W. Featherstone is likely to be leaving shortly for pastures new. It is thought he will be stationed at Inglewood. Afternoon teas are still being held on sale days in the hall. The last was very successful, being presided over by Mesdames D. K., W. and E. T, Wright, of the Ngariki road, and Mrs. H. R. Wright, of New Plymouth. It is not often that ladies so far away are so kind as to render assistance to Rahotu, and it was very much appreciated. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Wright have just received word of the death of their eldest son, caused through the loss of a British cruiser. Mr. T. P. Hughson as been attending the Methodist Conference at Auckland. | Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Groom, of Pomona Gardens, are taking a holiday in the < Nelson district. Private Thomas MeKenna was farewelled in the supper-room of the hall on Saturday evening, being presented witli a case of pipes and tobacco on behalf of the citizens of Rahotu. Private MeKenna suitably responded, Mr. S. Candish presided.
