Y.M.C.A.
WORK FOR THE SOLDIERS. The aub-committee appointed by the Patriotic Committee to arrange for collecting funds for the Y.M.C.A. met yesterday, there beiig present: The Mayor (Mr. "Burgess), Messrs J. E. Wilson, 0. Carter, H. Goodacre, and J. Paton, and also Mr J. E. J. Flewellen King, national organiser of the Y.M.C.A. work. It was suggested that the committee's work might be commenced at the Agricultural Show to-day, and it was decided with the permission of the show executive, to erect a nwti.ll teat on the show grounds, fitted up to represent the equipment of a Y.M.C.A. tent provided for soldiers in the firing line and in the training encampments, and furnished with writing material, games, etc., the object being to give parents and friends of soldiers an idea of what the Y.M.C.A. does for the comfort and well-being of their' boys. A member of the committee and Mr. King will be in attendance at the tent all day and will gladly give information with respect to the best mpans of forwardng parcels and money to soldiers. The public are invited to visit the tent and meet Mr. King. There will lie no canvass for subscriptions on the show grounds, but a box will be placed at the entrance to the tent for the reception of donations, whether cheques, notes, gold, or such smaller amounts as people are willing to give to forward the objects of the Y.M.C.A. fund. Mr. Paton, the committee's treasurer, lias received a cheque for £25 from the Mayor, (Mr. Burgess).
