PATRIOTIC FUNDS
A meeting of the local Patriotic Committee was held last evening, Mr. J. ft. Wilson being in the chair. With reference to the departure of men from New Plymouth on March 8, it was decided to ask the officer in chargeto line up the troops in front of the station steps, sn that, tlm Mayor could address them. It wa» also (W the Band be asked to attend. A request from the Women's Patriotic Society for a donation was received, and £SO was granted. Mr. King, representative of the Y.M.C.A. addressed the meeting, and stated the objects of and reasons for the Association's appeal for funds for its special work. The meeting unanimously decided "That the sum of £250 be voted to the Y.M.C.A. from the Patriotic Fund and that the committee subsidise £ for £ up to a total of £250 any future donations subscribed by tHe ' public within the New Plymouth patriotic committee's district, the whole of the money to be devoted to the special work carried on by the Y.M.C.A. in Egypt and elsewhere beyond New Zealand, for New Zealand soldiers, £250 of the money so raised to be devoted to the comfort of the sick and wounded soldiers beyond New Zealand. Also, that the committee appeals to the public to give money to the special fund now being raised by the Y.M.C.A." It was further carried, that, with a view to raising moneys for the Y.M.C.A. work, a committee be set up to collect funds and arrange details with power to act, such committee to consist of the Mayor, Messrs ,T. E. Wilson, Carter, Goodacre, Hughes, and Paton, with power to add to their number.
