DEATH OF JUDGE KENNY.

■ END OP INTERESTING CAREER. | The death occurred in a private hospital in New Plymouth 011 Monday night ' i Judge H. Eyre-Kenny. He was born in Montreal, Canada, and was a son of the late lion. Colonel Kenny, M.L.C., of the 73rd Regiment. Judge Kenny came to New Zealand as a small boy in 1847, and spent his youth in the Auckland district. He was educated at St. John's College, Auckland, and afterwards articled to the Registrar 0; the Supreme Court at Auckland. For two years he was secretary to Chief Justice Sir George Arney and afterwards commenced the practice of his profession in Auckland. In 18(i7 lie came to New Plymouth, having received the Appointment of Registrar of the Supreme Court here. Two years later he was mad (! Resident Magistrate, and in 1870 became District Judge for Taranaki, Patea and Wanganui. In 1879 he was transferred to Hnwke's Bay, resigning, however, three years later." 111 IS9O he was appointed Magistrate at Westport, thence to Thames in 1S!)7. In the following year lie was made Deputy District Judge for Wanganui, West Coast and Wairurapa, and in 11)08 was transferred to the West Coast of the South Island in a similar position. He retired in HIO.I and_ went to reside in Nelson, coming to New Plymouth two or three years later. Tiic late Mr. Kenny was keenly interested ill military matters and held the rank of captain in the militia. He contributed to the New Zealand Military Journal about two years ago some very interesting pen-and-ink sketches of officers commanding the ferces in New Zealand from ISJ,! to IS7O. For some time he was a member of the Board of Governors af the New Plymouth High School, in which lie took a great interest. Thonjh for some time his health lias been failing, lie was able to get about until a week or two ago.
