BAKERS' AND PASTRYCOOKS' | ViSPUTE, A SETTLEMENT REACHE^. The Conciliation Council s;;t New Plymouth yesterday to hear a dispute between the Taranaki Operative Halters and Pastrycooks' Industrial Union of Workers and employers throughout the Taranaki district. The Commissioner for the Northern and Taranaki district (Mr. T. Harle Giles) presided, and the assessors were: For the employers, Messrs E. May, J. West and A. W. Lealand; and for the employees, Messrs J. 0. Ycale, A. N. Angus and P. Berg. A full settlement was arrived at, The foremen bakers' or pastrycooks' wages were fixed at £3 !2s fid (an advance of 7s Gvl per week). Bakers' laborers under the new award will receive £2 10s per week. The hours of work are the same as in the old award, with-the exception that a new clause has been inserted that all work >lia!l ccaso between the hours of !i p.m. and 2 a.m. Tin? remaining of the old award have been accepted except the clause referring to country bakehouses, which was deleted. It was agreed that the award conie into force as from April 1 next and remain in force for two years. On the motion of Mr. E. May (for the employers), seconded by Mr. Vcale (lor the union), the Commissioner was heartily thanked for the assistance lie had rendered in bringing about a settlement satisfactory to all conecni[|l.
