RAILWAY GRIEVANCES.

SUPPORT AT NEW PLYMOUTH. < There was a very large attendance of members of the New Plymouth branch of the A.S.R.S. at the "special meeting held yesterday, and called for the purpose of considering the resolutions adopted by other branches regarding the. demand for an increase on the present rotes of pay. Mr. C. A. Edwards, branch chairman, presided. Circulars were received from other brandies dealing with this matter, and also a. confidential report of the society's executive recent interview with the Prime Minister and Minister of Railways. After considerable discussion it was unanimously resolved: That this large and representative meeting of the New Plymouth branch is in entire accord .with the repeated demand made by their executive council fer an increase of at least Is per day to all members of Division 2 (an immediate increase being imperatively necessary in view of the present high cost of living), and in the event of the Government's reply to the representations already made being in anyway unsatisfactory the executive council be urged to at once call a special conference of representatives from each branch of the society for the purpose of considering what further action shall be taken. It was also decided to ask Messrs. Okey. and Jennings, M.P.'s to receive a deputation from the branch regarding this matter. Before dispersing, the meeting expressed its renewed confidence in their president and general secretary, and also hearty appreciation of the manner in whip lithese olliccrs had represented the urgent need for an increase on the present rates of pay at the recent interview with the Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Railways. AN AUCKLAND RESOLUTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At. a meeting of 250 > members of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants a resolution was carried affirming the branch's loyalty to the main executive, and pledging the branch to support any action that the controlling body deems advisable to counteract the apathy and.indifference the Government has shown to the demand for a living wage. It was considered that the demand for not less than one shilling per day was a reasonable one, and failing a favorable reply a special conference of all railwaymen should be called to deal with the question.
