The Wellington road crossing at Marton, where two fatal accidents have lately occurred, was the scene of a miraculous escape on Monday evening. As the half-past five o'clock train was on its way to Wanganui a motor-car, driven by a Palmerston resident, ami containing four other persons, approached the crossing without noticing the train. The car was almost on the line when the train passed the crossing, anil with great presence of mind the driver turned the c ar almost parallel with the train, with the result that the front wheel of the car was completely wrench ed off by contact with the train.
