SHOULD YOUNG GIRLS MARRY SOLDIERS?
That is rather a crude way of summarising a proposition in the February issue of "Everylady's Journal," just to hand. But war marriages form a very burning' topic just now, and out of a discussion upon war and marriage rose ■ this query, which was put by a representative of ''Everylady's Journal'' to ..a number of noted people. Mr. G. H. Knibbs, C.M.G., the Commonwealth Statistician, said in reply that to marry late was perhaps economically sound, but it was selfish and unpatriotic. Mrs Alfred Deakin, wife of tiie ex-Prime Minister, and Miss Ethel Dane, the wellknown actress, were equally emphatic in favoring early marriages, and the general opinion of those who contribute to.the symposium seems to he that girls should marry their soldier lovers, even if they take more, than the usual risks that accompany this matrimonial adventure. Another question raised by ''Everylady's Journal" is ''How can I make money at home?" and an authority on the subject writes this month on how to turn leatherwoi'k. into a payable hobby. Then the Rev. A. R. Osborn, M.A., writes a very valuable and interesting article on the best books for children, giving Australasian parents some useful advice upon the direction of their children's reading. On the practical and domestic side, Miss Card and '"Domina," are as usual to the fore, the former's contribution this month being a camisole top in a new style of crochet that looks like old lace. The editor sounds the warning note of the closing of the picturepuzzle contest,
