HEALTH OF CHILDREN.
MEDICAL INSPECTION OF SCHOOLS. Medical inspection of school children was the subject of a brief discussion at the meeting of the Taranaki Education Board yesterday. The secretary of the Stratford District High School Committee wrote that the committee had spent some time in considering the question of medical inspection of children. The letter added: "The Department appears to be doing nothing in that way now, and in view of the possible extension of the epidemic of infantile paralysis now affecting the Auckland district, the comtee feels that the position is serious enough to call for action. Tam therefore to request the Board to give the committee authority to appoint a local doctor as inspector until such time as the Department sees lit to resume the work." In answer to a member .the chief inspector said no medical inspection of children was being held in this district at present. It was decided to reply to the committee, that the lioaTd did not have power to appoint a medical inspector, but representations will be made to the Department with reference to the question.
