NORTH EGMONT HOSTELRY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The trees in front of the new hostel are now being topped, thus giving * splendid view of the sea and country that was so far only obtained at the old house. Being over 3000 feet abovo aoa level the view is magnificent. For th e present season the bast day was reached on Sunday Inst, both houses being freely patronised. About 43 ascended the summit; some were caught in a fog at a rather late hour and wera met at the head of the forest by tha guide and brought in by lamplight. On Friday the Misses M. J. and,N, Goodfellow, and Mr. and Mrs. 0. Melvein (of Auckland), accompanied by Mr. Williams, ascended the summit, but encountered a very heavy fog the whole, way, both coming and going. A motor lorry containing 47 adultt from Waitara, easily got to the House on Sunday. i A croquet tournament was jteld on Tuesday, the whole day being islren up with it. The ground was in good order, and there were four prizes. A good ami close finish resulted, Mrs. Paton, proving the winner, Mr. Williams being rofHK-v----up.
