PATRIOTIC "GAMBLES."
DANNEVIRKE NOW IX TROUBLE. "A HASH" OF A LAW. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. The Dannevirke Patriotic Society, in an advertisement concerning a motor car art union included the statement that "the winner of the art union can take the car or £BSO in solid cash." This was done hecause one of the donors offered to give this amount if the winner did not want the car. The Assistant Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs lias wired the committee that the advertisement is a distinct breach of the license. The object of the Government throughout haslbeen to prevent raffling for money, which was purely gambling, and the advertisement was so serious a breach of the license that, unless it was immediately withdrawn, the papers would be handed to the police to take action.
