A GALA DAY.

AT EAST END ON MARCH 9. At the suggestion nf representatives cf tlie New Plymouth Pntriotie Committee a conference was held in the Town Hall last night between representatives of the Patriotic Committee and the seaside committees to arrange for a monster seaside picnic in aid of the patriotic funds. There was a large attendance, and Mr. C. Carter presided. It was decided to hold a gala day on the East End beach on March !), and all present were appointed a committee to manage the function. Captain Allen was appointed secretary, and the secretaries of the. Moturoa, Ivawaroa, and East End Seaside Committees were appointed joint secretaries. It was decided to ask all schools which had not yet held their annual picnics to do so on this day. while the Education Board will be asked to close the schools for the occasion. Arrangements will be made to get excursion fares from Hawera by the railway.
