THE AUTUMN SHOW.
To-ilay having been fixed u 3 the date 011 which the entries for the Tarnnaki Agricultural Society's Autumn Show cli.se, the farmers of this district will only be acting in their best interestj by milking the entries as numerous and attractive as possible. The Society may ho said to have entered upon a new !eri>e of life that can be made of great 'service to the fanning community, !f tl'cr so desire, for its future sucrose depends upon those for whoso benefit the Society was primarily established. After strenuous efforts on the part of (lie chairman (Mr. ■!. S. Connett), and a few enthusiastic helpers, new lil'e has been infused into the Society by the addition of a large number of members, but that is only the basis of operations. Jie reai test of the utility of the fjoc.'cty is that afforded by the Shows I t-Id under its auspices, and in that deportment tlio main support must be supplied by the farmers. Certainly a special effort should this year be made to ensure a Show that will worthily uphold the fame of Taranaki's primary p.'ducers as evidenced by their prosperity. 1 We do not presume to urge t'.iein to put in all the entries in their power, because that would be doubting their progressiveness, but it may reasonably be suggested that they should make it a point of honor to rally round the Society and make the forthcoming Show a record success. The townspeople may be relied on to do their share—and more —as in the past, for they recognise that th 3 interests of town and country are identical and that the Show i 3 one for the district, hence both by membership and prizemohey the townspeople willingly co-operate in the aim of the Society, wlnie :>t the Show they attend in large numbers, an ex-Ample that may well be followed by the country settlers. The first matter of importance is, however, securing numerous entries that will ensure keen competition, and as the list closes to-day there U no time to waste over wlmt. each fanner shall enter. No one knows better than the individual farmer wliat entries to make in order to have a successful Show, while those interested in other classes should also make a special effort to swell the list.
