' : ! ••? RECRUITING CAMPAIGN . 'A DEMAND FOR COMPULSION. T _ ' Sydney, Feb. 17. An inaugural meeting of the War Service Committee has been convened by the Mayor for the purpose of assisting recruiting. At the Associated Workers' Union Convention it was announced that 20,000 members had enlisted. An inter-State conference has been convened to discuss a scheme for soldiers' farms, involving ten to twenty millions. Melbourne, Feb. 17. Sir William Irvine, at a recruiting meeting, said he was of opinion that the hour for conscription had struck. The Government had full powers under the ! War Precautions Act. ENEMIES IN PUBLIC SERVICE. """'""""" Melbourne, Feb. 17. Enemy subjects, including naturalised citizens are debarred from filling further vacancies in the Commonwealth service. This does not affect present employees.
